So, if you think of Hamas as utterly violent, committed to the total destruction (killing, expulsion) of Jews “from the river to the sea,” read this and think again. It is deeply unsettling how often they have fielded long-term peace offers, only to have the person framing that assassinated. There is much more here—to understand the muddy, grubby, brutalized and corrupted arena of Palestinian politics from the inside. Its deep sadness.
