"Who's Allowed to Protest?"
Bruce Robbins' very timely book!
Bruce is a brilliant scholar of language and politics, and a distinguished professor at Columbia University, where he has been on the frontlines to resist “Vichy-On-The-Hudson,” as Rashid Khalidi named it. His new book puts these struggles into perspective, taking on the pernicious slur that young activists like Greta Thunberg or the leaders of the 2024 encampments in solidarity with Gaza are just “rich kids” indulging themselves. I’m old enough to remember when that was a standard ad hominem attack on protesters challenging the U.S.’s criminal war in Vietnam.
